William A. Brown (1938-2004) was an African-American concert singer and teacher. Brown was born on May 29, 1938, in Jackson, Mississippi. He earned a B.M.E. from Jackson State University (1959) and M. Mus. degree in vocal performance from Indiana University Bloomington (1962). As a recitalist he was noted for performing music by black composers. His concert career included performances with the Boston, Cincinnati, Baltimore, Royal Philharmonic, Detroit ,and Capetown symphonies; and he performed ...
